A master barrister in London tries to defend a young man against charges that he murdered an elderly woman who made him her primary beneficiary. In steps the young man’s wife and the courtroom case gets complicated, very complicated.

The story published originally in the UK in January 1925 makes its American debut in 1948. From there in becomes a 1957 film with an all-star cast, including Tyrone Power in his final screen role. Other big names: Marlene Dietrich, and Charles Laughton.

“The twists and turns of the plot keep the audience in suspense and provide challenging roles for the actors,” says John DeGaetano, artistic director for North Bay Stage Company, a resident company of the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts.
