Time on Your Side

How to Keep Time on  Your Side

This year has really flown by. How was it for you? Did you accomplish what you set out to do? Were you able to navigate obstacles and develop resources that kept client projects on task?

We hope your answer is ‘yes’.

In our experience, having a sense of direction AND an ability to change course when needed are essential skills. And to manage them, you need to be able to manage time estimations in order to meet critical deadlines.

Time Management

How do you prioritize your time? In public relations time shifts on a daily basis. Today's deadlines are not tomorrow's. So, you’ve got to pay attention to what's been done and when at the same time you are tracking what still being available for the unplanned media opportunities.

That means you have to pay special attention to when specific routine tasks should be performed. This includes like social media platform surfs that generate engagement, supervising staff, and developing/pursuing new media landscape portals.

There are times when having to make choices are stressful. Time management is a real challenge in today's multi-tasking world. But how to do it without the stress?

We have found that grouping tasks and goals into blocks can keep things manageable. Look at how you structure your work day. Does time currently slip through your fingers or does it move slowly like honey? Are there better times of the day for decision making or answering emails?

Once you have a sense of time’s rhythm in your campaigns, then you can adjust it to run more efficiently. It’s a bit like a car that needs to be time so that all parts are getting what they need to keep the entire system moving.

Because this takes conscious effort, make note of what time lines work best. You’ll know which do because these are the ones that allow you to provide quality service to your clients and to the media you engage with.
