Get Quirky

When it comes to creativity strategies, it's okay to get quirky. In fact, we encourage it. Take an example or two from our colleague, Heidi Richards Mooney who  is a whiz at this. Mooney, editor and publisher of WE, the online business and lifestyle magazine for women, also compiles a list of quirky marketing ideas to help jump start promotional strategies. Quirky Marketing Calendar Is now in its 11th edition.
Here are two of the 365+ ideas we enjoyed from an earlier edition:

January

Coffee Gourmet Month. ~ What do Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds have in common? They have millions of coffee lovers flocking to their stores every day to buy a cup o’ joe!  What makes them so successful? Each company has a niche of loyal customers who religiously purchase and drink their brands.  Why? They have made it an experience the customer wanted, whether it be the surroundings, the ambiance, the location, the speed of delivery or the cost, they have been able to find the magic formula that keeps folks coming back. Study them and see if their tactics can work in your company.

This same idea can be applied to bakeries and food production companies. Be sure to promote your efforts in newsletters, email blasts, social media, and online and traditional news outlets.

Be Kind to Editors and Writers Be Kind to Editors and Writers Month ~ Now is a great time to write to your favorite editors and writers and thank them for all they do – in fact, why not write a letter to the editor? Some campaigns are external, meaning they are designed for the outside world (clients/audience), and others are meant to be internal for behind the scenes relationships with media, etc.

Get Visible

In all cases it's important to remember that the success of any idea hinges on getting attention. Unusual, well-presented ideas can go a long way towards that.
